Paul is working on the development of collaborative research focused on the revitalisation of traditional mountain religion in contemporary Japan.

Areas of interest: post-human and more-than-human anthropology, multi-species studies, secularism and the non-secular anthropocene, global imaginaries of animism and indigeneity, cultural and religious revitalisation, struggles for popular sovereignty of sacred sites, sensory ethnography, embodiment and affect theory, decolonial and collaborative research methods
