There is no separate admission for students seeking only a master's degree. Doctoral students normally receive a master's degree en route to the doctoral degree.
The open period for applications begins each September for admission the following fall. Potential applicants must apply on-line.

The deadline for the submission of admissions applications and associated materials for Fall Quarter 2014 is now closed. The tentative admissions deadline for Fall Quarter 2015 will be the first week of January - January 6th, 2015.
When taking the GRE, please have your test scores sent to the University of California San Diego, code 4836 and to code 1701 for Anthropology.
General university regulations require a minimum college GPA of B (3.0). The department itself has no separate requirement. Few if any of our accepted students in recent years have had a GPA below B+, however. Many applicants have straight As in their undergraduate anthropology classes.

In general, the department has regarded a TOEFL score of 80 as representing the minimum English competence at which a student can function successfully in our program.
Students from non-Anglophone countries are required to take a test of spoken English after their arrival on campus before they are permitted to accept a position as teaching assistant.
